On the hills surrounding the Fushimi Inari Shrine, there are roughly 10,000 orange gates (torii) which have been donated by local businesses and individuals, thankful for the success and good fortune they obtained after a visit to the shrine. On each torii is inscribed the name of the business or individual, along with a date (presumably the date of the donation).

I’m leaving tonight for a week-long trip to London and Iceland and will be back with photos, of course!
