Photographed in Southern Iceland

We rented a car during our trip to Iceland in order to get out to places like Jökulsárlón (photos to come). I spent two days driving a manual transmission Toyota Yaris (they apparently don’t have automatic transmissions anywhere in the country) on these straight, flat open roads with practically no other cars around. Unfortunately, I had a hard time staying within the bounds of the national speed limit of 90kph (roughly 55mph), so I was pulled over and issued a $181US speeding ticket. Because so many tourists are pulled over, protocol is apparently for the officer to ask the driver to join them in the police car with their credit card. Fifteen minutes and a credit card swipe later, I was on my way.
